Choose Bar Counters and Stools With Care
One of the easiest and most stylish ways to transform the looks of your living space is to add some bar seating. This type of seating can be in the kitchen, living or entertainment area of your home and offers a relaxed and fresh look. Ideal for saving space, having bar seating is also a great way to show guests that you have good taste in home décor. Imagine having a sleek, modern bar set up in your basement family room. You can invite your best friend over for evening cocktails wherein he/she can pull up a great looking metal bar stool, sit down and enjoy your company as you discuss your favorite topics.
When determining which type of bar to buy, you should first think about how much seating you will need. You should always take the amount of available space into consideration. A good starting point is to allow about thirty inches between stools so that people have plenty of room to swivel around and for getting on and off the bar stools. Bar seating comes in a variety of heights so be sure to allow for ten to thirteen inches of space between the seat and the counter. This way, people will be able to sit comfortably, cross their legs and swivel.
You should look at all of your options before choosing the bar and stools. Do you wish to have arms on the stools? Should they swivel? Do you want low backs or would backless be better? Be sure to determine the type of material you want as bars and stools come in metal, wood, plastic and upholstered varieties. If your home is decorated in a country style, then a wooden bar and stools would be ideal but if your house is new and ultra-modern, perhaps plastic would be a nice fit.
It is also important to create a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere around your bar seating area. In the kitchen, a few art prints in poster frames hanging on the wall above the seating area would help to pull the whole look together nicely and would offer the perfect finishing touch. Hanging a tiffany-style ceiling lamp over a basement bar would create a pub-like and very cozy atmosphere.
You can find counters and bar stools at many home improvement and furnishings stores. You can also shop online for bar seating. The selection is quite diverse so regardless of the size of your budget or the amount of space you have, you will most certainly find just the right set-up for your home.
